Just a couple of Weirdos
Jamie and I are weirdos, that’s right, you read that correctly. Just a couple of weirdos, haha! More than that though, we are artists who have built businesses, alone and together. Jamie has been running a successful business for IDK how long with Hoopspiration, before I came along.
Hoopspiration
After receiving the health benefits from hula-hooping for asthma, Jamie learned how to make hoops. She then, started teaching others how to hoop. Eventually, she began building hula hoops for her classes. Then, getting paid for special requests for hoops. She even learned how to add fire to the mix. And her hula hooping performances, began bringing in more money. Which all led to Jamie creating Hoopspiration. A business surrounding hula hooping performances, with or without fire, and, the selling of the hoops she built. The rest, as they say, is history. Jamie has been running her business of teaching hula hoop and selling hula hoops for around 20 years.
After we became involved romantically, I started assisting Jamie with her Hoops and Flow Performance business at various events in town. I learned how to set-up for fire performances, how to assist Jamie with fire safety during fire performances, and all the aspects of vending. Eventually, I began falling in love with the process of vending and owning your own business.
From daunted to daring
At first, it’s a little daunting to present yourself and/or your vision of a business to the community. Lots of doubts and fears, but Jamie had already a footprint in the ground of our community. So, that really made it easy to just ‘step into it’.
the Alchemists and Serendipity
After some time, I suggested to Jamie that we start a business together. To which, she responded, I already have a business, let’s just do that together. And so, we did. However, I was feeling the pull of a different vision for our vending, as far as the items in the store and displays. The usual ideas that pop-up, I imagine, for fairly new entrepreneurs and small business owners. We decided to build a ‘brand business’ that was the ‘umbrella’ that all the other businesses we were making or had ideas about making could fall under. That was and is, the Alchemists and Serendipity.
Beiwe Tinctures, Card Collecting, and Jewelry
Jamie had already created another business with Beiwe Tinctures . Her love for creating food through gardening brought her to making tinctures. Her interest in healing the body or assisting it in difficult times was always there. Jamie has asthma and a lot of what she has built our businesses around are things that help her health. And, in that, others health as well.
I was not so altruistic with my business plan one might say. I just enjoy cards and think others do as well. Something about a little dopamine hit from putting another card, comic, or other thing into the collection that I’m here for. We both were and are creating businesses to support our community in some way, shape, or form.
We are artists, and we use many forms for the expression of our art. We love creating. We have always enjoyed making jewelry and as we have delved deeper into that interest, we found new ways of making jewelry. We brought those items to the vending events, and they sold! It feels so good to see your art making people happy and the world a more beautiful place.
We are very thankful and grateful for our businesses and having the ability and opportunity to share that with our community. We thank you for your continued love and support!
